Neil Richardson
Neil has been producing creative and expressive ceramic forms for almost 11 years.
All of this time has been totally dedicated to the far eastern approach called ‘Raku’, developed in Korea and Japan many centuries ago.
The essence of Raku is in many respects more concerned with ‘the journey’ than the arriving. This philosophy of method ensures that pieces made by Neil are created within an environment of spontaneous thought as well as the enjoyment of the actual making processes.
Raku (enjoyment of freedom) roughly translated from Japanese, is such a dramatic & immediate approach, enjoyed by many, not just collectors but also makers & creators.
Neil is teacher as well as maker. He works with schools, businesses & care in the community organizations, helping to produce installations with group collaboration as well as individual pieces for clients.
All of his work is priced from £30 to several hundreds of pounds depending on size & commission requests.
BBC television recently featured Neil’s work on its ‘Inside Out’ documentary programme as he has developed a new vision in remembering a lost loved one by way of the manufacture of a unique commemorative urn product.
The beautiful colours achieved in some of his work has been adapted in a very creative way by mixing the ash of the deceased loved one into a glaze & then Raku fired to produce a joyous, colourful remembrance
of a life once lived.
This work can be viewed on his other website http://www.hereinspirit.com. Neil welcomes any comments that you have to make or any questions you would like to ask.
